Eighteenth-century soldiers in the 13 Colonies often carried black powder for their muskets in powder horns.  Some of those animal horns were engraved, a type of scrimshaw, and today are considered to be rare folk art.  Those engravings included maps, inscriptions, dates, the name of the horn’s owner, and more.  The workshop includes a primer on these artifacts, an opportunity to view FWH’s powder horn collection, and instruction on sketching powder horns from the F&I War and Rev. War.  Class limited to 17 people.

Tuition fee supports the cost of forthcoming restoration of FWH’s replica French siege gun carriage and conservation of other museum artifacts.  Workshop sponsored by the French & Indian War Society at Lake George and Fort William Henry Museum.  Must be preregistered.  Preregistration ends three days before workshop. (Saturday August 8, 2026)

Registration closes 1 week before the event (August 1)
